What I want you to remember...

Today I want to share with you a letter revealing many of the inner thoughts and frustrations of those I help. So many of us can relate...

Dear Son,

I want you to remember the fun we have playing in our backyard. I hope you can close your eyes and hear the giggles. The games of tag. Of sharks and minnows. How you always want to win the race.

I pray you remember when you fell down, you always hopped up and kept charging on. Or, if it was too hard of a fall, you asked for a hand or a hug. I'm always here to support you. I always will be. I'm your biggest cheerleader.  Biggest fan.

These are the days. The days I will remember forever. The days I dreamt of before you were born. Teaching you about life as we play. Showing you how to cope when it doesn't go your way.

I pray my coping is good enough. That you don't notice the days I run a little slower. The days I limp a little more. How kneeling at the tub has always been painful on my knee.

I want to sit and play on the floor. I find myself holding back, because it hurts. My knee. It's something I have dealt with. Hid. And try not to let you see.

I don't talk about it. I want you to see me as strong. Powerful. Unstoppable. I want you to remember the hikes, runs and playground time. Not me being unable. Unable to the be parent I want to be. Dreamt of being. The parent I'm determined to be.

Son, I give it my all. Every day. I finish on empty. Some days hurting more than others. But I do it for you. And I will do it a million times over again. Because you deserve it.

I want you to have the best. So I give the best of myself. Guiding, coaching, holding your hand through life. I will show you how to be strong. Powerful. Unstoppable.

And...I promise to you. If I need to ask for help I'll be strong enough to ask. Even if it's just for my knee.

Love you to the moon and back.
